Choosing jewelry as a gift for someone can be a challenge. Jewelry is a very personal item and people have their own taste. But it also can be a beautiful token of friendship or love and be a much appreciated gift that will bring joy for years to come. So- How do you choose a piece that is just right for the receiver? – Here are some factors to consider-Who is it for? A friend/partner/relative/child/adult/work colleague/teacher? Each of these people will have a different relationship with you. Think about the message you want to convey. You may want to stick with conservative pieces in classic colours and tones for the person you don’t know very well. For special friends and relatives you may want to purchase something more personal. Perhaps something engraved or in their birthstone or star sign or initial or even a locket with a photo.
What is their taste?- think about the jewelry they wear-is it big and bold or petite and feminine? Is it silver or gold? Do they like to be experimental with their fashion or do they stick to wearing the same pieces? Do they like costume jewelry or more expensive items? Consider these factors when choosing.
What is the occasion? Is it a special birthday or a thankyou gift? If it is a christening, 21st or special birthday you may want to consider something in gold or silver with a stone or engraving with a message to mark a special occasion. Depending on the occasion you may want to modify your purchase. Your choice may be a funky and fun piece to say ‘Thank you’ or a more conservative and classic piece that says ‘I care about you’ or ‘cherish this special keepsake’.
How much do you want to spend? –an important factor in your choice.
Some other things to consider-Do they already own a charm bracelet or a piece of jewelry in a set that you could add to? Do they like a certain gemstone? Do they have their ears pierced?
It is helpful to give some thought to what you are looking for before heading out to the shops to choose that important gift! It may save you lots of legwork if you already have some ideas. Happy shopping!
